Ah yes it is normal........ They're called check valves and EVERY digger that leaves a factory in this day and age have them, not optional extra's like you say, and as for being able to see them
It is not normal to have such a valve on mini excavators, but i guess you can get it as an option. You need such a valve for legal lifting stuff with an excavator, but i can`t se any valve on this video.

What will happens if a hose fail?
I guess you loose a foot or an arm.
2 man and a fork lift to install a new track.
It`s no big deal for 1 man.
