also the converse are lilac and match with the pastel colour scheme of the film, another reason it isnt a mistake.

I can hardly imagine such stupid person who wouldnt notice shoes on the while filming, or later, on the screen. They must have checked the scene 100 times before it came to the cinema. So I believe it was intententionally, but the ideas itself is stupid. There are plenty other ways how to stres teen age of a queen. But I dont really wonder cos the whole movie is an absolute crap and nonsense. In no serious historical movie you listen to an american(!) "rockband"(!) as a background!shitty movie!

its obviously not a mistake because the converses are to clear to see the editors would of noticed and re-shot the scene.

@MsCarolinaMatsuda Of course it's not a mistake, they don't make mistakes like that in movies like this.

well, not thinking that is was a error like "coppola though that there were converses in the 18th", but something like "someone forget to take the normal shoes out of the set and they mixed with the costume shoes" . However, it is said that it was intentional. Marie Antoinette in converse would make a lot of sense. She was just a teenager!

@padam4 seriously? i tough it was a mistake, like "someone forget to take the normal shoes out f the set"... something like that... when can I find this Sofia Coppola's statement? in DVD extras? thanks

I have seen LIT and I still made that statement - LIT was rescued by a fantastic performance by Bill Murray - the directing was basic at best and the plot was borderline racist. She wants to be profound but doesn't possess the cinematic vocabulary

@inkymoon You obviously haven't seen Lost in Translation or you wouldn't have made this statement.

Sophia Coppola's films are like one long perfume advert. The device of using the baseball boot is clumsy. She's a terrible film maker with daddies name and money to open doors with.
It's not a movie mistake. Sophia Coppola(the director) put it there intentionally to just make a point that Marie Antoinette was just a teenager.

the Converse sneaker is a classic symbol of youth and teenagers. Sophia Coppola put those in the montage to make the visual point that Marie Antoinette was still, in fact a teenager when she bacame queen.
