  • I think its funny how people always seem to get into religious arguments about this song.

This song isn't about God. It's about people.

It's about how people treat God like something funny and trivial until something bad happens. It's pretty sad, actually, because most of the time it's true.

Great song, thanks for posting : )

  • @medralol Mira, yo no creo en Dios, soy atea. Pero no estoy de acuerdo con que la gente se ria del creyente. El tema no es creer o no creer. El tema es respetar o no al otro. Es mi opinión, no critico a nadie :)

  • I did.. and said : BITCH PLEASE!!!

  • @hepatitis Of course, no need to be brutal ;).

  • @andreasdrg The desire to have revenge through your example is a different issue but it is quiet a relief that somehow you saw my viewpoint. As for me, in a philosophical area, this argument works. I wish I could expound here but the space is limited. We are entitled to our opinion & even if you do not agree with me at least our conversation was not brutal (if you know what I mean:)).

  • @hepatitis I think it is an interesting viewpoint, that an appetite would imply the existence of that which the appetite is pointing at. It certainly works for water, but I don't think it works for theism. People in dire crisis grasping at straws by trying out prayer for the first time isn't very convincing to me. Mankind has been reading "heavenly punishment" into lightning, droughts and earthquakes for almost as long as it has existed, that doesn't mean they aren't natural events.

  • @andreasdrg Sir as I have pointed out the ADAGE is true MOST OF THE TIME. The example of Hitchens does not negate this adage because in great numbers people really do have faith to higher powers when in certain situations. Hitchens was more like a man who followed his own principles to the end but for those who do not hold such views this adage directly applies. Just as i said this has something to do with the concept of APPETITE. [caps-locked to make a point]

  • @hepatitis Having been in the hospital myself about a year ago, in a very bad way but later recovering, I can personally testify that it is false. Christopher Hitchens, commenting on his illness, said: "redemption and supernatural deliverance appears even more hollow and artificial to me than it did before". There are a thousand ways of explaining "foxhole conversions", among which good old fashioned panic induced irrationality is among the best and theism is among the worst, IMHO!

  • @andreasdrg I am not saying or talking about expectation no no no. I was pointing about appetite. The fact that it exists is a good proof that something exists to satisfy it. It really is as simple as 1+1=2. Dont have to complicate things actually. The adage is true (at least most of the time) & based on my experience in the hospital I have seen many people believe to a higher power when the time of no return comes.

  • @hepatitis Well, as I said, that adage is false to begin with, so I don't see how it can be used as an argument for anything. If you mean that the fact that people have a "spiritual need" can be seen as implying the existence of something supernatural, I see your point, but would chalk that up to evolution. We are a wary species, prone to see "intention" in natural events: better to falsely assume there is a predator lurking in the rustling bushes than to falsely assume there isn't.
