To celebrate Emory's 175th anniversary, Emory Report brings you a look at little-known facts about the university.

Today, The Depot is home to a delicious mediterranean restaurant called Zaya, but its history goes far beyond being an eatery. Built in 1916 as a train stop on the edge of Atlanta, it was a location where people could get on the Silver Comet and ride all the way up to New York City without switching trains.

I remember the Depot while at Emory from 1989 through 1993. I used to go there to peruse the small bookstore that was there at the time and enjoy a fantastic sandwich and glass of iced tea. At the time, it was a great on-campus alternative to the offerings of the DUC and Cox Hall.
