Why acting AS at College or Uni was not good for me

This is my responce to Nervous Neuron and how she says that she can be herself at Uni. I tried to be myself and got nothing but physical and mental bullying.

You were bullied for liking dr who instead of star trek? That's the most disgusting thing ive ever heard. I was taught from a young age to deal with aspergers syndome by treating the world as one big stage and projecting personas that people find easier to deal with, and that bullies find intimidating. Its like, pretending to be tom baker your whole life. Its more fun that way anyway.

I think that if I went back in time now I would break a few noses. But I wanted to fit in and I tried my best. But it just did not work. I got bullied for being different. Life sucked at the time. I had no job, future or girlfriend so I thought. I still lived at home with my parents which the other lads laughed about as I was 4 years older than them. I did not drive and still don't. I was developmentally around 14-16

I know what you are talking about, I've been there. I was also different, and I got completely destroyed for that. I will never understand how people may think funny a person being laught at, or how cruel they can be just in the name of "fun". It just doesn't make any sense to me - Well that may be becouse I'm "the" joke.

But anyway, try not to feel too bad about it. You are certanly better them all of them together. Just let them fuck each other and try to move on.

I am afraid you are sadly wrong. A friends Son has been diagnosed with Aspergers and he had to leave college due to bullying all the time. He had no friends and had to walk the corridors. Kids are cruel and they don't really grow up till they are early to mid 20s.

There are many different groups at Uni. Foreign Students etc. So you will find your niche. Its a lot different to college.  Tell people you have a social anxiety disorder and they will not think you are avoiding them. They will understand. Most people now are educated. You could say you have suspected Aspergers. A lot of people know about it now.
