There are over a quarter of a million children who work in the cocoa plantations of West Africa. It's hazardous work, which exposes children to highly toxic pesticides. This episode of the BBC World TV series "Survivors Guide" goes to Cameroon, where the International Labour Organization has been working to eliminate child labour from cocoa production and help children return to school. Produced by Rockhopper TV in cooperation with the ILO.

  • i cried watching this i realize now that i should be grateful because im the same age as some of them

  • @NdanteAllegro

    thank u for u decision

  • its sad too because, they cant even eat any of the chocolate

  • Yeah, they don't work because they are so poor that they will starve. They work because they feel bad about us, and they want to give us chocolate.

The society they live in is extremely unproductive, there is no magical way around this.

They sell it to us because we pay more, and they can buy e.g. 10 times the amount of food they would if they sold it on their own market (if anyone would even buy it).

  • even sweet chocolate can be bitter. its a shame.

  • If you want to see the full docu movie see my channel also read the info and there is a link to vote for this film to win the first price.

Together we can make a diference the chocolate i buy is some more expensife but worth it see the CSR presentation pdf link i placed at the ducu info.

    Thanks

  • I feel so guilty... This is such horror...

  • No! Don't stop eating chocolate! These people need to make a living and cocoa is going to get harvested no matter what. But just make sure it's FAIR TRADE, which means they aren't using slave labor. Yes, it will cost more—because you're actually paying the people for their work—but it's the best way to let them know you want this to stop. SEND A MESSAGE WITH YOUR WALLET and only buy fair trade. As for child labor…that's a more complicated issue.

  • No more chocolate for my family unless it is fairly traded. I am genuinely shocked.

  • i cant believe that children as young as 5 are behind the very food that i love i am gonna so not eat chocolate anymoore this is just to sad of a reality to eat it knowing it comes from children if ur with me plz thumbs up!
