@viper131st Hi Viper, I am not sure what your training experience is, but I would like to respectfully disagree - I will keep it brief - everyone should be able to squat right down with a neutral spine - we train ourselves out of these positions. Ever seen video of 80 year olds in tribal communities squatting by their fire for hours while they cook. Squatting is functional - perhaps not appropriate for one with knee pathology. Read "The Athletic Body in Balance" by Gray Cook

So I was rethinking this the other day, and Viper really does not have a point. Yes, you can wreck your knees squatting that low, but, you would have to have some sort of weight on your back. Please correct me if Im wrong there. Other wise, I don't see any problem with squatting below your knees.

@everyonesAjunkie If you are squatting without knee pathology, with proper technique and appropriate load there is not an issue with squatting below thighs parallel. I think people tend to squat deep with bad form and too much weight creating knee and back issues - then they point the finger at the squatting.

Maria, I believe that viper has a point. I admit 100% that I do not have the credentials that you have but I am looking to get my foot in the door. However, I would like to make one point on this issue, I believe fully that off ice workouts should mimic what the sport demands of the athlete, and yes maybe 80 year old tribal women squat like that by their fires, but I've never seen a goalie squat down that low. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I think this point should be discussed.

@everyonesAjunkie I appreciate your comment and you are totally entitled to your opinion - my suggestion if you are really interested is to read the book called 'The Athletic Body in Balance" by Gray Cook to learn a little bit more about functional movements and perhaps bring some research data to support your opinion. Take from the video what you feel has value to you, if you do not want to work on your hip mobility in this way, then leave it out.
