Mark Howard, the founder and artistic director of Chicago's own Trinity II Dance Company, has trained an ensemble that combines lack of pretension with technical confidence and precision. One of Mr. Howard's brightest ideas was to bring in Sean Curran as guest choreographer. Although Mr. Curran is a modern dancer, he was originally trained in Irish dancing, and he knows how to blend forms. His "Jump, Jive and Jig" borrowed steps from swing and jitterbug dancing. The performers' feet continue moving crisply. Yet their upper bodies are loose and there are many jazzy shoulder shakes. Dancers swoop their arms about in his goofy "Curran Event", as well as clap their hands and slap their bodies. One moment even resembles an elaborate game of patty-cake.

  • @Brighide It's by Kila.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! It aired on tv when I was younger, and because I was in the tots program for trinity, my parents recorded it on a VCR (seems so old now!) but I lost it a couple years ago, and this was my favorite dance.

  • Any clip of ashley for this?

  • love this..how cool...great fusion of traditional and modern. Very visually stunning and interesting.

  • I noticed that a while ago when I got a chance to watch it on youtube. Very cool! I remember the first time I saw you guys in Chicago...I was SO excited when this came on b/c Kila was my favorite band at the time and I had no idea you guys were doing a song from them (this was looong before youtube!).

    Cheers
