So, here's the backstory with this video. We made this video in 2005 and posted it to the Something Awful forums:
http://www.slackcircus.com/storage/reddit/fsp/fsp_history.html

In 2006, dkilzer2000 posted it to youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8Nc8RCLy1s

We finally got around to posting it to our own page in 2007 (you are here).

Then, in 2010, in the process of redesigning our company web site, we posted it to Vimeo:
http://vimeo.com/8564338

We did not disable the "Download the source video" option on Vimeo, nor did we leave our watermark on the video as we had on the YouTube version. From Vimeo, people grabbed the "high quality" version, edited out the intro and outro (which included all of our credits), and posted it again to YouTube.

As it turns out, removing the intro and outro was a very smart and viral-y decision by ProtoOfSnagem and others, because the video has gotten more views than ever in this abbreviated condition:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ5LpwO-An4

Now, there's even a 5-HOUR looped version!
http://youtu.be/6GggY4TEYbk

All of this is to say, we are extremely happy so many people have enjoyed this video over the years. And if you're here watching the original, sitting through the smooth intro tones of my Yamaha DX7 (aka the Doogie Howser-o-matic, which you can pry out of my cold, dead hands) we appreciate you!

Love,

Slackcircus

  • The reason this has less views is because it doesn't catch people instantly. The start is funny and all, but if you want a video to go viral, it has to get people's attention instantly...the ripoff manages that because it starts off with the funniest part of the video.

  • @Njnetsfan15 This is very true. The views prove it. If only we knew in 2004 what we know now. ;)

  • @slackcircus I actually prefer this version, Slack Circus. I found the HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA version and started looking on the web for the source. What I found was so much better than the HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA version. I found the original website, the newer website, and the original video and its title. Now, here I am, watching this version much more than the other version. I love it. Nice work, guys. This is by far one of the best videos I've ever seen.

  • @theliegeofshadows Aww thanks so much!

  • still not as gay as twilight XD JK this is awesome!

  • is it possible that you might consider releasing a higher quality 'REMASTERED' edition of the song?I would actually put this on my ipod

  • 2:09 Those are some badass wheels

  • I loled hard at 3:18

  • Finally, the original version! I originally saw it many years ago, and it frustrated me that the edited version did not include any credits at all (which is impolite, at the very least). But I googled a bit until I rediscovered Slackcircus' site.

I also prefer the full version. Wackiness at its finest.

  • still pretty fucked up how you guys don't get credit on proto's vid. I'm sure you guys don't really even care now though.

  • This version of "What's Up" is pure comedic genius. Rolling the R's, shouting some of the words... fuckin hilarious! And perfectly combined with the He-Man clips...

Why hadn't I seen this until yesterday??

Do more of this. 80's "kids" are now the adults with kids so there's your audience/potential cash cow right there.

  • Genius!

  • @slackcircus Yah same here I found the 7 mil view video and am glad I searched for the creators and happened to stumble upon an 'extended' version. It seems like you guys had to of manipulated he man, but its probably all mostly awesome editing. The black background scenes and the rainbow sparkle ones are pretty odd though, sure don't remember he man being such a weird dude when I was a kid!
