Hi guys, My names Will. I made a Hydrofoil for my starling as a school project - properly fibreglassed, sanded, painted ect. This was just an experiment and here are the results! Sory I was not able to put the actual video on here due to some techical issues, but watch this space! :p I firstly tried them with the rudder foil on, but that seemed too slow, and worked better than the centreboard one! (all these pics are without the rudder foil) Enjoy :

  • Hey my names Will and this is exactly the sort of thing I would do! I might be getting the same boat soon too! I've been planning to make a hydrofoil bike for a while now also :D We are similar people!

  • @Wilzaza Haha a bike? wow that waould be so awsome! goodluck, I'd like to know how you get on :)

  • Mean! what did you use to keep the centerboard down?

  • @TheLongboarderguy just jammed a bit of driftwood i found on the beach up the slot to stop them rocking, and tied the top down reeaallii tight :) I did plan to make a double bolting lock thing but I was selling the boat shortly after this so I though it was best to just do what i could without hurting the boat :)

  • Excellent pix. I almost didnt beleieve itd be possible to lift that boat out of the water on foils - but surely you did it. Id love to know the pitch of the foils.

  • @Petewp Hi, this will sound silly but i honestly just made them by feel, its around 8 degrees i think? they are waay too big and i need to cut them down :)

  • cooool buddy! :)

  • super jealous of your boat! did you sell it?

  • @willcobbsail Hey thanks :) didnt end up getting the boat, I'm going to build one now. I might not get to make that bike for a while but I know how! You will see something in the future on my channel that has hydrofoils. I'm going to be making more videos.

  • @Kash588

Not too far back, it is due to the pitch of the foils mostly, also the fact that will was so heavy for the boat, even without the foils means that is will be exceedingly difficult to sail.

  • Hey, mate! This is really great, you've done a great job. However it looks like you are sitting too far back. Have you sailed it in heavier conditions? I think stronger wind will allow you to sit further forward and keep the boat more upright without the hull lowering back into the water. This should increase the speed significantly.

    Have fun=)
