BLOOD TEA AND RED STRING © 2005 is a handmade stop-motion fairy tale for adults.

Thirteen years in the making, Christiane Cegavske's dialogue free film tells the tale of the struggle between the aristocratic White Mice and the rustic Creatures Who Dwell Under the Oak over the doll of their heart's desire.

The Mice commission the Oak Dwellers to create a beautiful doll for them. When she is complete, the Creatures fall in love with her and refuse to give her up. Resorting to thievery the Mice abscond with her in the middle of the night.

Meet fantastical creatures and view dazzling scenery as the Creatures Who Dwell Under the Oak journey through this mystical land to reclaim their love. See the mice descend into debauchery as they become drunk on blood tea! See what happens when the Oak Dwellers eat the yellow fruit!

A heart rending musical score that was composed and performed by Mark Growden accompanies this disturbing and wondrous adventure.

  • This looks amazing... very eery, but in a beautiful way.

It looks like a lot of effort has been put into it, and the music is beautiful. I also like the way its been described as a fairytale for adults, I dont think adults are given fairytales anymore. And as Im becoming more of an adult, I dont want to miss out on them, they give me hope.

I think this looks, just, gorgeous.

  • Ah, don't worry about that loser's comments. He/she probably thinks G.I. Joe is the pinnacle of artistic cinema achievement. This is a beautiful film.

  • "David Lynchean fever dream on Beatrix Potter terrain..." Yep, that's pretty spot-on. Not a rip off of Lynch; This director's vision is similarly twisted but is uniquely their own. If you have a brain for art films, watch this one. It's not so much entertaining as it is captivating. Even the 'slow' bits and the creepy psycho-sexual bits are still beautiful to watch because the stop-animation is good. Not for kids, natch! This film might've been bit better if it hadn't been labored over so long.

  • Looks incredibly creepy, in a beautiful way...

  • Thank you Ms Cegavske for making this film. We're really looking forward to Seed in the Sand!

  • Based on this trailer alone I went ahead and bought the DVD from Amazon. Blood Tea and Red String is unlike anything else I've ever seen. A beautiful, haunting, unsettling film. I have watched it several times already. If you like The Brothers Quay then get yourself a copy of Blood Tea and Red String.
