@TheSmackerlacker such organizations were the primary way homeless people and the less affluent recieved food/healthcare/ and other assistance. However, such organizations are not good for building a political base of DEPENDENTS which will eventually lead to a permanent ruling political majority.
@TheSmackerlacker That is a perfectly EXCELLENT idea! Thats what is frustrating is that most people DO look to the government to give them what they want and thats one of the reasons why we're so bankrupt. However, your idea would be killed should Obama follow through with the elimination of the tax deduction for charitable donations that you would need to have such a not-for-profit organization. In fact, before the founding of governmental programs like food stamps, medical/care....
@cameltoejoe69 More importantly, I had an idea the other day. Yesterday in fact. It occurred to me that people in America think like children. We look to our government, or our mystical sky daddy for approval before we do anything.
So how about this? Instead of saying "Gee whiz mister! Can we have universal healthcare?", why don't we give it to ourselves? What exactly is preventing us from starting a national, not-for-profit organization that holds funds in trust to pay for medical expenses?
@cameltoejoe69 I'm not aware that any "study" has ever been performed to determine if people are happy with their healthcare. I can tell you this, I am NOT happy with MY healthcare. It's expensive and it doesn't cover everything.
All of this is beside the point however. My rhetorical question was motivated by a desire to point out that with or without public approval, our healthcare system is and continues to be shit.
@TheSmackerlacker Point to where a large majority of the country was begging for socialized healthcare....there is no such study! 85% of people were satisfied with the quality of their healthcare they recieved prior to the passage of Obamacare. That is why Obama relabeled the debate over "healthcare reform" to "insurance reform" because everyone pretty much liked their healthcare and he needed an argument for reforming the whole system to fix that small 10-15%.
@cameltoejoe69 I am not a whiny democrat. I'm not whiny, and I'm not a democrat. As for 85% of the country being satisfied with healthcare.... Are you fucking kidding me?
And you know what? I have no idea what this video is about. I don't care either. The issue is not the issue, so to speak. The issue is that this illusion of honest debate and critical thinking is just that, an illusion.
There is no left. There is no right. There is one party. Money is power in America. Literally.
@TheSmackerlacker You are a whiney democrat. What he said was absolutely true. Why else would Obama ram a bill down our throats when 2/3 ppl here dont want it? Why, when the economy was bleeding 400k+ jobs a month, was Obama focused on Healthcare, which 85% of the country was pretty much satisfied with? Why remake our whole system for those 10-15%? The simple solution is that the left has ALWAYS wanted universal healthcare and this WAS their best opportunity 2 get it.
