Part 3 of 3 on how to get a simple, flat, transparent texture into Bobs Track Builder, a utility for creating tracks for the PC games rFactor and Richard Burns Rally.

This final part shows the importing of the object and texture into BTB itself, including the use of the XPacker utility to make the XPack, and BTB for the track creation aspect. This was done on an early beta (4.9.x) of BTB so some aspects may differ to the most recent release.

  • Yes, BTB imports the two separately. Obviously you could make up your own dds files, but the models won't be much without loading *some* in at least.

  • i wana use this to make tracks for the fun of it!

  • Excellent tutorials. Thanks a lot

  • do you know how to create a track on your own city??

  • Hi - thanks! You can do very limited 'animation' in rFactor, but I've never tried it. They're not really animations as such, though, I believe it's only changing of the texture (so to animate a start light, for example). You can't do fully animated 3D objects in rFactor at all. So probably not what you're thinking of. But BTB supports it, yes, even if it's rather limited.

  • Nice and easie tutorial :)

But Is it posible to make animated Sprites or objects in BTB .. I mean like in many rally games wean you get so centrain point an animal runs through the road . Is it posible in this editor ?? to get a hot spot that will activate centrain action.

  • Thanks, mate

  • Do you need to have both the .3ds file and the .dds file to import the objects into BTB? I have found websites with cool .3ds objects, but it's impossible to get the .dds as well.
