I saw this in NYC in the mid 70s on a double bill with Nazimova's "Salome." The crowd went wild! Thanks for posting.

Makeup by Vincent Nasso

Professional makeup artist Vincent Nasso created a look for Holly he called Western Kabuki; a face like a mask that encompassed Greek tragedy, pop art, and silent cinema.
The result is stunning. The film opened to wide acclaim at New York's Playboy Theatre on Holly's birthday, October 26, 1973. Broken Goddess remains one of the great underground New York films of its period.
Available on DVD (personally autographed by Holly) from my website (click on more INFO upper right)

Awesome. I'd read somewhere (Holly's Autobiography?) that this was meant to be shown accompanied by the song "Superstar". Is that correct?
Great to get a chance to see La Woodlawn in this. Can't wait for the DVD release!

Holly says that it was originally envisioned as a silent movie of Bette to be projected behind Bette Midler at NY's Continental Baths as she sang "Superstar" - but Bette was too busy to be filmed, so it became a vehicle for Holly's prodigious talents!

Who designed the black gown Holly is wearing? Is it a Halson?

I called Holly and asked her - she said the gown is an original Balenciaga haute couture, and was a gift from a very wealthy heiress friend and fan she met through Andy Warhol. Jackie Curtis shredded it to give it that distressed look!
