NOTE: THIS VIDEO REPLACES TWO THAT I HAD UP BEFORE. THE ONLY CHANGES ARE THAT I MERGED THE TWO EARLIER VIDEOS TOGETHER, AND I ADDED TITLES.
Excerpts from a concert given by Houston-based keyboardist Rob Landes at Camden Royal Oaks, a 55+ community in Houston, Texas. In this segment he plays Swanee, The Last Time I Saw Paris, Chattanooga Choo-Choo, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, and, for his finale, the old Irving Berlin standard, God Bless America. (I apologize if you can't hear some of the talking. You'll probably need to turn your volume up during the talking parts, then back down for the music.) Rob has had quite a varied career so far, from leading the Rob Landes Trio to serving as organist for several churches to composing and arranging to playing keyboards and various other instruments in the late-60s San Francisco psychedelic band, Fever Tree ("San Francisco Girls"). Go see him if you ever have the chance. Besides being an amazing musician, he has a wonderful sense of humor and is a virtual encyclopedia of musical knowledge and trivia. Also, when he asked something like, "Are you taking a picutre of my rear end?" he was talking to me! I guess he thought my little bitty Flip camcorder was a still camera. Then he said something like, "I hope you have a wide-angle lens on that thing!" :-) He was so charming, and so sweet to the "old folks"! He plays for them fairly often, and they LOVE him. (I guess I'm weird -- I probably know at least as many songs from the 40s as the 80-and-older crowd does -- I've always loved the old stuff.)

After his second song, that's my mother he's talking to when he asks incredulously, "You didn't know that was 'The Last Time I Saw Paris'?" :-) I think Mom had accidentally shook her head "no" instead of nodding "yes" when he asked if the audience knew the song. Then you hear my goofy, loud laugh!
