Hi Mario, Had the same4 problem with a LP Classics Congas. Solve the problem following this intsruction on this video listed below. Only thing I did diffent was using a speaker wire..See video called, "How to neutralize overtones in a Conga drum" Good luck

Don't worry about the ring too much bro, I've got some old cuban sonocs made from cedro ( a softer wood) that ring quite a bit too, remeber with all the bells and montunos nobody's going to hear that ring, only you when you're playing by yourself.

@Mario2YT i´m not Giovanni and i don´t pretend to be like him, i just play my style, for over 30 years, i´m a teacher and a percusion instruments fabricant with endorsers all over the world. You are a beginner who pretend to know how have to sound a intsrument without having longer experience playing as that youré showing in this stupid video.

You can tell by the shape of meinl congas that they're all wrong. They are too narrow and straight so they resonate at a fixed point. I choose congas by shape.LP are good shape and so are Remo but both are expensive but sound great. Value for money though the older Pearl Primero Pro's were very very good IMO.Nice tubby shape and very warm tone even though they are fiberglass you might think you were listening to wood.When Pearl brought out the new Primero range they changed the shape. A mistake.

@twerpantine yes he does
Your strokes are horrible, very ugly slaps and you don´t have any idea how to make a muted tone. Luis Conte congas have a excellent sound, specially if you change the original water buffalo skins for good cow skins.

@mecagondiosylavirgen I was a total beginner. You must realise not everyone has such a huge conga talent like you! I bet you were better that Giovani Hidalgo the very day you were born. Its shoking my bad technique didnt produce ringing sound on othe congas (Meinl Pro, LP classics etc).

@Mario2YT I once asked where did you get the cowhide for your drums...never got an answer...I guess in youtube one needs to first insult people in order to get a response...is unbelievable.

If you always play in the same room and it's got lots of hard surfaces this often causes lots of unpleasant overtones to bounce around the room. Also something could be resonating at the same frequency - deaden metallic objects such as heaters etc. Another option is to try to "wear in" the head by getting it nice and tight and really playing hard then de-tuning at the end of a session. I've found that this can beat the newness out of a head and it eventually "finds" its tone.

Hi, its not resonance within a room, i've tried many different places and the ringing is still present there. Now i detuned the drum and use it as a thumba with my meinl professional 11 3/4 that has no ring at all. Thank you for your comment.
Take care
Mario
