Save Money and help keep you baby with our easy to make homemade baby wipes.

Making homemade baby wipes takes just a few minutes to make, save loads of money and reduces your baby's exposure to chemicals. Here's the money saving recipe:

Take 1 roll of premium paper towels and cut in half (width wise) using a sharp knife. Cheap, thin paper towels will rip easily. I recommend making your cloth wipes 1/2 a roll at a time, but if you have more than one child or feel like half a roll doesn't last as long as you would like, use both halves.

When making:
(2) 1/2 rolls

2 Cups Water

2 Tablespoons baby wash, shampoo or soap shavings*
1-2 Tablespoons baby oil or olive oil (preferably organic)**

*Look for chemical-free products. My first choice is Earth Mama Angel Baby Shampoo & Body Wash.
**Again, check the labels! My first choice is Earth Mama Angel Baby Baby Oil.
To make the wipes:

1. Mix all the liquid ingredients together. If using soap shavings, melt the shavings into liquid form and mix with water and oil.

2. Put paper towels in a large mixing bowl and pour the mixed liquid over the top of the paper towels.

3. Let the mixture soak through for approximately 10 minutes.

4. Turn paper towels upside down and allow to sit for another 10 minutes.

5. Pull out the center cardboard core and the wipes will pop up through the middle of the roll.

6. Store your homemade wipes in a gallon-size plastic bag, storage container with a lid or re-use an old disposable wipes container.

For extra Savings and to promote a greener Earth, try using cloth diaper wipes. Just soak the cloth wipes in the above mixture, roll up the wipe, and place in a container, gallon-size plastic bag or a wipe warmer made especially for homemade baby wipes.

Another option is to place the above mixture into a spray bottle and spray directly on your baby's bottom. Gently pat dry with a moisten wash cloth or cloth wipe.

Hope your baby's bottom comes out clean, smooth and soft while saving you $$$!

You can use coconut oil (organic is best), too. I skipped the baby soap all together. :o)

I LOVE organic coconut oil and use it for many things. You just have to be sure that baby is not allergic. We used coconut oil on my nephew and he was covered with an itchy rash :-(. Once we stopped using the coconut oil, he was all better.

Wow! You are awesome! What a great trick! Question, though...does the mixture gather any mold or anything like that after sitting or is it ok? Do you know a specific shelf life?

I don't keep them around for too long. I suggest making a half a roll at a time and see how long it lasts you. You may find that you need to make a roll at a time if you are going through them faster than expected.

making the wipes was as easy as you demonstrated. i used VIva paper towels, cut in half with a sharp santoku knife (i cut lightly, but firmly). olive oil, baby shampoo. the best part is there is no burning sensation that you might get from commercially bought wipes. thank you.

Note: If you don't have an electric knife, you will just shred your paper towels. I have a super sharp bread knife and it just tore up the paper towels. What a waste!

If you keep your wipes in a sealed container they stay moist for up to two weeks but you may experience the paper towel leaving behind residu. I also recommend using the vivia paper towels they are less abrasive and are durable when wet. Hope this helps!!!!

Im a nanny and my boss does this for her baby she wants only natural and less chemicals used in her baby and I've been doing this for a month now and it works great. I find that a half a roll is used every week on a 3 month old and yes you should only do half a roll at a time for the paper gets to soft over time.
