This charming scene is from ' The Sorcerer' as the villagers awake from a spell. First performed in London in 1877. Taken from the remarkable film 'Topsy Turvy' by Mike Leigh. A must for Gilbert & Sullivan fans.

  • I agree with you. They already have the costumes ,theatre etc in place. The score and lyrics are written for them . They could have had an excellent version of Mikado that would have sold steadily for years on DVD.

  • If only they'd had enough time/money to do productions of The Sorceror and The Mikado. It's funny how much better this filmic version is, when everyone's playing a role playing a role, than some of the productions out there today.

  • Thank you for including that duet between the two divas in the dressing room. Funny moment.

That's what I love about this film, that they included lesser known G&S pieces instead of just the popular ones.

  • This film as a whole and maybe 5 others I can think of, is pure perfection on film! I just smile thru the whole movie.
