Kinetika's Din Shuru is a musical from a story by Ali Pretty and Mary Anne Roberts which follows Chaz, a young British filmmaker, on an epic journey through time against the backdrop of a mighty Masala of Rhythms including carnivalesque experiences and city bombings. She follows the trail of a mysterious red feather from London to Kolkata (India) to Trinidad (West Indies) and then to the UK (Leicester, London and Canterbury), to raise a centuries old curse off the heads of her family. The Goddess Maa Durga, a spiritual embodiment of feminine strength, helps Chaz along the way in this her necessary journey, one in which she has to come to terms with her mixed and complex ancestry.
Din Shuru involved a number of artists and organisations from across the UK, as each event took place elements from the last event travelled to take part in the next, creating an ever growing project that grew and evolved, culminating in its final performance in Kolkatta in India.
The musical, with music by Jit Samaroo and with lyrics and book by Tony Hall.
