Gaining Weight After Gastric Bypass

Am a Thyroid Cancer survivor, also had the gastric bypass. Getting ready for my yearly cancer thryoid scan so have to go off meds. Meds help to control my weight and lack of thryoid. I am now watching as all the weight I have lost is starting to creep back on:( I have not given up!

You can eat platefulls of veg without having to worry about calorie counting. Up the veg - lower the shakes which is where all the calories are from.

This is exactly what I thought too but according to my surgeon he wants us on the atkins type of diet. HE wants us eating the majority of my meal as meat or protein, then once I eat that if I have any room left it is green veggies and possibly some low carb fruit. Strange diet if you ask me..lol. For some reason our bodies don't absorb things the same and the protein is the number one concern.

Mostly I can only eat about 1/2 cup of food at one sitting if I am lucky. I do drink the protein shakes, and they contain No carbs. Want to hear something strange? The surgeon told me I wasn't losing as much weight because I need to increase my shakes and load them down with peanutbutter..lol.. sounds crazy I know!

I hope you and your family are feeling better. Did you contact your doctor yet? That does suck, after all your hard work. I'd be upset too. Now if you were to go back onto your meds, would you lose the weight you had just gained? Would you lose it more rapid, or would it be like losing it all over again? Best Wishes to you Sweetie. Doc hasn't called me back. I have gained another pound. I guess the good news is that I am swelling in the legs, so maybe it is water. I am hoping. I am not sure if I will lose it rapidly or not. I lost my thyroid in an accident and I have thyroid cancer. I have had used Thyrogen shots and it works, and insurance did cover it. when I did not have ins. I went to the website for thyrogen and downloaded a form that the doctor can sign and fill out to get the shots for free. Look into it.

Well - good luck - Have done the atkins - it works, but is not a healthy option long term IMO. I wish you all the best, looks like your getting back on your feet. fastest weight loss i had was dropping 14lbs in 2 weeks after moving to poland and walking around - all day long at -20 every day! Increidble what a bit of exercise can do.
