Lego Land Earthquake Safe Building

so my friend and i are at The LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre in Schaumburg IL | http://www.legolanddiscoverycentre.com/chicago/us | and we stumble across a table. At first we see kids building on the platform and then another kid turning a knob and then kids screaming. We notice the table shakes and knocks down buildings. We then go to a side table and build a normal 2 block straight column, it fails. So we used the same concept but instead we built a support around it. What did it do? Nothing because we built it so good.
