  • I was told by my father and grandfather that they were the fishing boat the "Flora D" that was referred to in the book that found the telephone beacon still connected to the sub and called the Coast Guard which help start the rescue. Would there be a log of that call somewhere? It seems no one believes their story.

  • For all who recall the Thresher and Scorpion tragedies, the Squalus is a relief - they actually were able to save most of the crew. This was due to "Swede" Mommsen's Diving Bell, one of several devices tried out for the first time in this disaster.
