Presenters:

Gregory Kennedy MSc, Leslie Galloway BN, MSc

Synopsis:

This is the second in a series of three webinars presented in partnership with Accrediation Canada and the CAPHC Patient Safety Collaborative.

This session will focus on two Required Organizational Practices (ROPs) in the Communication category.

1) Two Client Identifiers: The team uses at least two client identifiers prior to the provision of any service or procedure
2) Verification Processes for High Rick Activities: The team implements verification processes and other checking systems for high risk activities.

All organizations have policies on 2 client identifiers but it still seems to pose a challenge in those circumstances where there are special considerations, exceptional populations and unique situations. Organizations often overcome these challenges in creative ways.

Surgical checklists are one example of a verification process. Are organizations successfully implementing the use of checklists; is there any resistance?

Greg Kennedy, Health Services Research Specialist, Accrediation Canada will provide the background on these ROPs, the intent and expectations of Accrediation Canada, tips for their application and practical examples in the paediatric setting.

Leslie Galloway, Quality Officer for the Regional Winipeg Health Authority, Child Health Program, will share her organizations experience in the development, implementation and application of a Surgical Checklist.
