On a hot August day, the Kansas Food Bank truck was once again at the United Way's Laid-Off Workers Center handing out free boxes of food to people laid off since October 2008. Wichita's unemployment stands around 8.4 percent, twice what it was a year ago. Thanks to a matching grant from the Topkeka-based Sunflower Foundation and hundreds of generous donors, the cost of supplying up to 3,000 food boxes has been paid for.
