NATO Turns 60

Founded in the aftermath of World War Two and at the onset of the Cold War, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization bound together the countries of Western Europe with Canada and the United States to safeguard their security against the rising threat of the Soviet Union. In recent years, much has changed. The Soviet Union is no more, NATO has expanded eastward and the organization faces new challenges, chief among them how to deal with the war in Afghanistan and adapt its mission to the 21st Century. They're questions for NATO leaders as they meet in Strasbourg, France and Kehl, Germany to commemorate the Alliance's 60th anniversary. In this report from Brussels, Sonja Pace looks at NATO at 60.
