This is a little pipeline I put together combining a few tutorials I could find here and there on the web. This is by no means comprehensive and in all likelihood, a little too specific. The video shows you how I was able to take a model created in ZBrush, export it into Cinema 4D, create usable UVs, and re-import that back into ZBrush.

Before you post a bunch of hate please recognize that I'm not any kind of pro at this stuff. This is in fact my first tutorial and I'm still very much in the learning stage of 3d modeling. my hope is that someone out there struggling to make sense of platform interoperability will find this useful, and then pass it on.

Good luck and let me know if this helps any of you.

  • They have a new plug in for uv's now a much easer way to do it now

  • He's right. Pixologic has just released a plug-in called UVMaster that works great, but as far as I know it is only compatible with version 3.5 R3. If you're running Zbrush with all of it's updates you should be good to go...if not, what are you waiting for?

For those of you who have not updated and still need help, don't give up. Good luck.

  • Is there a way to download this tutorial?

  • You can use any of the various brands of software out there that "capture" streaming video from social networking sites. Or you could send me a message asking for a copy. I'd be happy to help you out any way that I can. And thanks for the interest.

  • Thanks for the big kudos! I wasn't sure this would really help anyone.

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial :D You have saved me so much time. The morph target element caused me problems too! Another thing to watch out for is the normals zbrush doubles the normals so you can view both sides and has the inside as the dominant, so other software reads the normals as inside out. I'd recommend turning off "double" under "display properties" and the hit flip then save your base mesh like this before generating the UVs in an external software!

  • @mreckswhyzee

The only problem is if your running an illegal version of Zbrush 3.12, UV Master only works for ZBrush 3.2. Which is almost impossible to get an illegal version of.

  • awesome, awesome, awesome tutorial.. something I've been looking for

  • ERROR: "Delete the lower subdivision level"

  • Thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for right now. The new plugin will probably spare me from that but it´s still nice to see the way it originally had to be done.

  • Just what I needed I've looked for ever atcually like a year

  • @Stridemovies It sounds like the shortcuts are the same in C4D as Maya. Alt+Right Click allows you to rotate around the model, Alt+Middle allows you to pan around the screen, and Alt+Left Click allows you to Drag-Zoom. As for your second question, I'm going to have to defer to someone with more experience.

Yeah, I'm that much of a noob. Sorry.

  • Great tutorial. Just what I was looking for!! Do you know if it's possible to export adaptive UV tiles to Cinema from zBrush?

    Thanx!
