the musicians union came to an agreement with Top Of The Pops after miming was banned but poor performances followed, that backing tracks could be used providing those who played on the song were present

but it's a live vocal and bands often had to mime to the backing track as it was the policy of the BBC

This is quite nostalgic for me! I saw this on a Top of the Pops re-run when I was about 7 and loved the lyrics as it made me think of my school!
