Commander T'Pol is a fictional character played by Jolene Blalock in Star Trek: Enterprise. She is a Vulcan who serves as the science officer aboard the starship Enterprise.

Star Trek: Enterprise (simply titled Enterprise prior to season three) is a science fiction television program created by Brannon Braga and Rick Berman set in the Star Trek universe created by Gene Roddenberry. The series follows the adventures of humanity's first Warp 5 starship, Enterprise, ten years before the United Federation of Planets shown in previous Star Trek episodes was formed.

Enterprise premiered on September 26, 2001. The pilot episode, "Broken Bow", takes place in the year 2151, halfway between the 21st-century events shown in the movie Star Trek: First Contact and the original Star Trek television series.

Lieutenant Saavik is a fictional character in the Star Trek universe. She appeared first in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, in which she was played by Kirstie Alley.

The film opens with an unfamiliar female Vulcan in command of the USS Enterprise, but most of the familiar bridge crew (Spock, McCoy, etc.) are present. Attempting a rescue mission in the Klingon Neutral Zone, the Enterprise is attacked by three Klingon battle cruisers, with the apparent loss of all hands. The situation is soon revealed to be, in actuality, the "Kobayashi Maru Test", an intentional no-win situation designed to test the character of officers-in-training. The unfamiliar character is introduced as Captain Spock's protégée, Lieutenant Saavik. Admiral James T. Kirk oversees the training session externally.

Why does the Kirk's Enterprise bridge's loudspeaker glow?

@PeterPalfrei Consider how you know that the glowing object is in fact the speakers. The same applies to the bridge staff. When they hear a sound they can confirm the sound that they hear is coming from the speakers by glancing at the speakers to see if the sound and light are synchronised. There could be many other unidentified sources of sound. Say they hear the sound of a warp core about to explode. If the sound is from the speakers it is reassuring that it is someone else's warp core.

@bdcollecter we have Roddenberry's ideas of what a Vulcan must and must not be. We have the standard with Spock and Leonard Nimoy. Either you got it as an actor our you didn't. Blalock didn't.
