That's true...there was more feeling of mystery before color, on that show. Kinda like the sense on gets from B&W still photography. Color blew the show wide open. Haven't we enough color in everyday life?

@dancebandleader I could not agree with you more! I much prefer the black and white shows. Sadly, PBS in NC mostly plays the color version of L.W.

The older shows had more instrumentals and a looser format, that when the
show went to color. Also the black and white shows were almost all live,
whereas the color shows were all taped. That and the profusion of girl
vocalists seemed to bog down the show.
