This engine was built by Lokomo, Finland in 1948. It is preserved and still in use, for excursion trips and special events.

  • Heh - in English, that would be:

    "Funky locomotive. That would be on such a ride for a week."

  • It's a Hr1 we call it "Ukko-Pekka", H = Höyry (steam), r = raskas (heavy duty).

  • Not quite right - H is for "henkilö", i.e. Passenger, r is inddeed "raskas", heavy, but that refers to the axle loading weight, not duty...

  • True on that, thank you for correcting. Forgot Tr's and Tk's. Though Dv's and Dm's are Diesels.

  • in 1960 I went from Alahärmä area to Joensuu. Four changes of trains I believe...from Joensuu south to Helsinki was nicer in a sleeper with 3 bunks,2nd class I believe. cool to see :)
