Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels)
Lyrics/Music: Jim Croce
Operator, oh could you help me place this call
You see the number on the matchbook is old and faded
She's livin' in L.A.
With my best old ex-friend Ray
A guy she said she knew well 'n' sometimes hated
Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell 'em I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels
Operator, oh could you help me place this call
'Cause I can't read the number that you just gave me
There's something in my eyes
You know it happens every time
I think about the love that I thought would save me
Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell 'em I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels
No, no, no, no, that's not the way it feels
Operator, oh let's forget about this call
There's no one there I really wanted to talk to
Thank you for your time
Oh you've been so much more than kind
And you can keep the dime
Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell 'em I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

Never trust a person who says, "I don't like Jim Croce."

God.....I remember many rides with my folks in our 1971 Impala, with my Dad playing this on the 8 track......I hated it then, but now look back on it fondly......I know every word to every song on it........Glad my Dad played these songs.....I will always treasure them..........Jim Croce was a true artist, taken way too soon.........

This was an amaizing song. He wa the last person to give concer in Tehran Iran in 1978 in Amjamdiyeh stadium. I was there I was 9 years old with my best friend's brother. People were going crazy.
Now I hear that he passed away:(

Less than 1 out of 50 who posted up, and I'll bet 99% who viewed and didn't post liked the song. Probably rappers, or those that don't like folk music. We know the song is great. You've always gotta have some jokers in EVERY crowd.

what an excellent comment.Thank you for adding something intelligent to you tube, instead of the usual crud. I do wish that real talent was more mainstream in today's music, but I think it is there,we just have to dig for it.

I think that this applies to all who say that they wish were born in a previous era of music when I say that the artist may be dead, but the music they made is very much alive and still here. We can still listen to the music because as long as we have the internet, the music won't die. EVER.
