  • Belated reply @JeeRant - what's wrong with his kitchen? It gives a nice homely feel. And, frankly, with some interviewees, you shoot where they ask you to!

  • Perhaps he was just about to prepare a bit of roast duck, quail or pheasant for some lunch :0)

  • What is an iconic composer? How does one become one? Can one introduce oneself as one? ("Hello, I'm Birtwistle, iconic composer"). Can one drink gin and tonic and still be iconic? Perhaps it means "I con".

  • @fremsley001 actually that's a wonderful idea to set this interview to music.

However,i think Gerald Barry would do a better job of it than Birtwistle.

  • Harrison Birtwistle is my friends Grandpa! Rory Birtwistle.

  • This woman knows aboiut music .Im America its always some personlaity who knows nothing about the interviewee 's field asking questions!

  • one of my favourite pieces is called `Silbury Air` -he was writing fantastic music at that time.

  • An absolutely HILARIOUS blooper at 3:52 ..."I think it was Colin Davies, I can't remember, maybe it was Boulez, I think it was Boulez, yeh, it must have been Boulez." Gillian Moore recovered well though, true professional that she is.

It's remarkable that old Birtie hasn't set this dramatic interview to music, with his part sung falsetto by some bloke driving a six-inch nail through his testicles whilst wearing a giant moose head.

  • AWESOME. Damn, I think I'm hypnotized. Fifteen more hours of the same, please! Oh and +++1 for the peloric phalenopsis (doritaenopsis?) orchid in the window!!!

  • he's got a great speaking voice, and seems like a decent bloke..but i'd rather listen to him talking than his music :-(

just turned radio 3 off during one of his works (orpheus) and thats not the first time either.

  • Holy pupil dilation !!

Reminds me of the Cointreau advert and if I can be so bold it looks like the ice is well and truly melting !

  • Messiaen`s music has a lot in common with Poulenc-similar patchwork structures and use of harmony.
