Just me playing soldier from a few weeks ago. Nothing crazy notable, and you get to see me completely derp out with the shotgun a few times (I'd been playing primarily with the gunboats before this).
Anyways, I'm using demos this time for videos, and I probably will continue to do so in the future, mostly because they look a shitload better than replays. The only problem is that you can't see yourself unless you're using the "thirdperson" command, because it's a PoV demo.
The way I got that view was like this:
1. First, record a demo. Just type "record videonamehere" into the console.
2. This will record anything after typing in the command. Not anything before it, like replays.
3. This means it will also record in between lives.
4. It can also record between map changes, but only if you stay connected to a server. If you disconnect, you have to type "record blahblahblah" again to start recording again.
5. After you are done, type "stop" into the console.
6. Then, exit to the main menu when you are prepared to watch your demo.
7. Type "playdemo" and a list of suggestions should appear below the command, with the oldest demo being at the top of the list. If you've recorded more than what it shows, don't worry, you can still watch it, it just isn't obvious.
8. You can also try typing "demoui" into the console, and then simply load the desired demo. It'll have the .dem file extension.
9. After that, your demo will take a second to load and start playing. From here, TF2 is recreating EXACTLY what happened during the game, which basically means the entire game is running on bots, everything is moving on predetermined paths. The only thing that will change is something like how a ragdolls and gibs fly.
10. Anyway, if you haven't already pulled up demoui, then pull up demoui by typing it into the console. From here, you can adjust the playback speed, etc. etc.
11. You can also type "sv_cheats 1" to turn cheats on the demo. This will allow you to watch in third person.
12. Type "thirdperson" into the console! Viola! Third person. But it isn't a tilted view like I have.
13. To get that, type cam_ideal into the console. You can type numerical values next to the suggested commands that pop up to move the camera around, so that it's over the shoulder, or higher, or lower, etc. You can ever make the camera rotate all the way around so all you do is record a player's face the whole game. Also, you'll notice that you can only move the camera upwards and to the right. If you want to change that, type in a negative value for one of the numbers instead, and you can choose to move the camera downwards or left. You'll know when you see it.
14. That stuff is nice, but the HUD is pretty annoying, right? Gets in the way. To get rid of that, type in "cl_drawhud 0". To change it back, type in "cl_drawhud 1".
15. And there you go! Your demo! To stop watching, simply disconnect. You can still access the pause menu, if you couldn't tell.
If you want me to make a video walking you through the process, then let me know in the comments. Thanks!
@rynobax: REALLY? Well, that solves my stv problem.
