The 78 trans-am handled great for its size.

not really the 1989 TTA was underated at 250hp to boost sales of the corvette, but was dynoed in indianapolis and says it makes over 300+hp. Theres a vid of an 1989 TTA stomping a 98-02 rami air which makes around 325hp

400 Cubic Inch motor with only 180HP and 320 FT-LBS of torque? That just seems terrible.
-
@TripleTransAm hah cool i was thinking i would have to put my camera on my lap or something like that but it would never hold still.
-
@surf403 torque counts more than horsepower, if this car were to have 180 lbs. feet of torque then it would be fuckin' pathetic
-
you would be surprised that a 400 pontiac with 180 horses could smoke the tires all fuckin day...By the late 70's horsepower was gone, however torque remained in the big displacement engines.. as opposed to 350 horse at 5800rpms, it became 325 ft lbs of torque at 2600rpms..when you hit the hammer down the power was there, if anyone ever noticed thats why most late 70's cars with big v8 motors dont tach out past 4000 rpm's when ya let the automatic tranny do the job,

i drive mine everday. people who trailer classic muscle should be shot down by the car gods and curb stomped
-
@TripleTransAm Right on man, I agree with driving these cars! They should not be trailer queens!! These cars are meant to be driven!!
A 78 trans am 400 is 220bhp not 180

@magnum328 The optional W72 400 is 220 hp (200hp in '77). The base L78 400 is 180 hp. The olds 403 (high altitude and california) was 185hp (but a bit less low end torque versus the 180hp Pontiac 400). The car I filmed here has the base L78, therefore 180hp. My other '78 (the 4 speed) has the optional W72.

Hey please let me what you did to record your dash. I have been wanting to do something like this with my 89 Trans am. I had L98 and the 700R4 repaced with an LS1/LS6 combo and a t56 6 speed.

@mslevitz Way simple. I just put my small crappy point-and-shoot camera on video mode and shot as I drove. :)
