SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP:
NORTH AFRICA - "THE VOICE OF CARTHAGE"
New sounds of worship are coming again from ancient Carthage in North Africa. Due to security issues the actual worship and people are not used -- however, some of the instrumental tracks heard in the video are those found in the newly composed worship songs. This documentary is offered to reveal the enviornment out of which the new heart music comes.
Carthage was one of the three centers of the early church -- Alexandria and Rome were the others. From Carthage came such great Christian Fathers as Augustine, Tertullian and Cyprian who shaped the development of the early church and greatly impacted the expansion of the church in the West.
Many archeological sites demonstrate the significance of Christianity as it was birthed here. The devotion of early Christian martyrs became the seed of a powerful church that changed the face of the entire region.
The 7th Century marked what appeared to be the end of Christianity in this place when Arabic armies conquered and spread westward. However, thirteen centuries later a new, young church is beginning to resurrect.
Today a few hundred Christians out of the 10,000,000 inhabitants are again planting the seeds of Christianity that many believe will produce a strong movement in the months and years ahead. New indigenous worship songs are again being heard as the young believers gather.
