i was also there and the police were great - no physical force (if there was, maybe it was later when it might have been necessary - certainly no uncalled for force in the 4 hours i was watching) and i thought they dealt with the situation (ie unblocking the road and making things quiet again) really well. And with good humor and fun!

By the way, there were confrontations between the police and the people resulting in 6-7 arrests and definite use of physical force. I was there I saw it. I am looking for videos.

Attacking people? No. I was there on the street for most of the night and never saw anything like that. Just police ushering people away from cars trying to pass, but nothing out of line.
