The best shrimp toast I ever had was 3 simple ingredients. A raw shrimp put between a triangle of white bread closed with a toothpick and deep fried. At least this is the way the top Chinese restaurants in NY, like Lums, used to make them. Today, it seems that lots of other ingredients are used as fillers to extend the recipe. I think the 3 ingredient recipe taste best, especially when served with duck sauce and hot mustard.

Haha... I had forgotten all about this! You're gonna wanna add me as a friend ;-)

Can you still eat it before you deep fry it? My husband and I want to try making this, and it looked just as good pre-frying as it did post-frying!
We've been watching your videos and are so excited. My best friend is Chinese so I've eaten a lot at her family's house and found your channel looking up how to make mantou. Thank you for all of your hard work!

@AyaKaraRemix Hi - I would not eat these before frying them b/c they have raw shrimp, egg white, and cornstarch which would not taste too good without being cooked. If you want, you can simply use cooked shrimp, leave the egg and cornstarch out, then process it, or chop it fine and spread it on the toasts. Though I have not tried it, that would probably be really good and a healthy alternative.
Thank you so much for watching and trying these - I really appreciate it :)

I've never seen Shrimp Toasts on the menu at any Asian restaurants that I've been to, but I have seen them in cookbooks. It wasn't until my trip to Bangkok, Thailand that I saw it on the hotel's menu and decided to order it for the first time. And they were YUMMY! Yours looks very similar to theirs. Here's a suggestion, they had sprinkled sesame seeds on top of the shrimp paste before frying and they served it with the sweet and sour sauce. Maybe you'd like to try that next time?

what is stir fry oil?

Stir fry oil has flavors of ginger, garlic and onion already infused in it. You can usually find this in the ethnic section of your local grocery store :)
