I am a struggling middle class teacher/ single mom. The first time I attended San Diego Occupy it became immediately apparent that there was a great discrepancy in what I saw with my own eyes at San Diego rallies and what the local and US media was portraying. What I witnessed was a highly diverse group of people who were intelligent, passionate, and VERY frustrated by a system that is not working. This experience inspired the song which I have linked to here. Artistic and time limitations don't allow for inclusion of every group who is participating, and I realize there is a whole world of people who are also participating in this critial point in history. This song is about this moment in time here in America and the American press. I hope you consider sharing your voice with this movement. And remember, .99 + .01 = 1. We are ALL part of the equation. Jackie Austin-Singer
I'm a small business owner who has seen business continue to shrink over the past five years. I'm am the 99%. As I was searching the Internet for images to use in this project, I was struck by the incredible diversity of people participating. America (and the whole world are finally waking up, and, as the sign in the beginning says...
"This is first time I've felt hopeful in a very long time."

United, We Are One Jackie Austin-Singer
We are mothers, we are daughters, we are fathers, we are sons
We are brothers, we are sisters, we are elders, we are young
We are Christians, we are Muslims, we are Pagans, we are one
We are black, and we are white, and all colors under the sun
(Chorus)
We are people seeking justice and it's time to take a stand
We've found our strength in numbers, together hand in hand
And we will not lay down to rest until our work is done
Today we stand together as one
This is our time to stand United, we are one.
We are carpenters, caregivers, we're peace officers, we are one
We are soldiers, we are heroes, we are workers, we are one
We are teachers, we are students, we are leaders, we are one
We are artists, we are poets, we are visionaries, we are one
Chorus
We are growing in our numbers and we've only just begun (Only just begun)
We are hundreds, we are thousands, we are millions, we are one
We come from every walk of life, united we are one
We are America, we are America, we are America, we are one
We are America, we are America, we are America, we are one
We are America, we are America, we are America, we are one
We are America, we are America, we are America, we are one
We are America, we are America, we are America, we are one
We are America, we are America, we are America, we are one
We are people seeking justice and it's time to take a stand
We've found our strength in numbers, together hand in hand
And we will not lay down to rest until our work is done
Today we stand together as one
Today we stand together as one
This is our time to stand United, we are one.
As the sign says at the very end "This is just the beginning". Since writing this song, Occupy has grown to global proportions! How amazingly fantastic is that? We are ALL one voice! Looks like a part 2 of the song is in order.
