  • For whatever reason, all of the high end tech journalists and entrepreneurs (Leo Laporte, Jason Calicanis, Kevin Rose, Andy Inathko, David Pogue, Walt Mossberg) have all, at one time or another, criticized Lotus Notes as being a thing of the past.

  • I use Apple Mail on my iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro and iMac and have never had such a responsive, elegant, and simple email experience.

From less of a consumer standpoint and more of a business standpoint, a lot of professionals in the entertainment industry I have known use Microsoft Entourage made for Macs.

  • The point Leo, Jeff, and Gina were trying to make is that Lotus Notes is very outdated when compared to the services available today. I am not an expert on it, so can't speak on it, and am simply more gleeful that I was able to achieve synergy with two of my favorite radio personalities (Laporte and Howard Stern). Jarvis appeared on The Stern Show about this last week.

  • Go to my main youtube page for a link to Sterns response to Jarvis a few later on The Howard Stern Show. Its the video I uploaded right after this one.

  • I know right !? It frustrated me how such a thing was a deal breaker when he was talking about what phone to get for awhile on the air.

  • i am technologically illiterate

  • In fact, Lotus is not closed, simply archaic. Those that put down these folks simply don't understand the context. This came in the middle of a discussion about ActiveSync and other syncing protocols. In those terms, Lotus couldn't get much more closed and useless in the modern world of mobile devices.

  • Sounds like political talk shows: everyone's an expert know-it-all that reduces complex things down to insults when they don't agree (or don't understand)...

As a developer, I know that Lotus Notes is far from "closed" - it's more like a Swiss Army knife - it can be tied into just about any system or technology. Personally, I've integrated Lotus Notes/Domino apps with other databases, used all the standard web technologies, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, RSS, XML, Java, and too many to list

  • @jamesis2 - Today, not a whole lot. A lot of people had bad experiences with it back in the 90's and for some reason think IBM hasn't updated the product in 10 years.

  • Guess who still uses lotus notes?

    General Motors

  • @bdhnz written from windows 3.0

get over it - it is a crap old product.

  • @MegaCharleyhorse That's because it is

  • I use Lotus Notes at work and Outlook at home, and if I could use Notes at home I would, it's much easier to use, and the syncing is a positive thing (although not necessary if you want to work off the server) because it allows you to not be a slave to your e-mail - you sync your e-mail when you are ready to get e-mail updates. And I started using Lotus Notes years after I started using Outlook. And you can use Notes on the iPhone, using the server.
