  • Your comments on "English practice run wouldnt happen in Amercian, make me laugh, We have to put up with , USA Fastest chases, USA Fastest police chases with 20 police cars chasing etc etc, I seem a few, from what ive seen, The police in the states when chases motor vehicles give little thought to other road users when trying to stop these vehicles, often they ram cars which in turn hit other vehicles with members of public going about the daily buisness causing injurys to them.

  • Unless we hear about the complaint, there isnt one. We use the siren as stated in our SOP's and state law (and yes, ive given you the link numerous times). We are not police, nor do we have blue lights like the police, and we have lights that cut out while parked. We dont maintain a forward motion into an intersection because of those drivers who realize its too late to stop, because then they plow into you. By sounding the siren further back, it gives them a chance to hear it.

  • I have no idea. We had a whole fleet of these peugeots and had to use the horn when people hadn't seen us and be really cautious around controlled junctions. Rural force, though.

RE: your earlier post. Many police cars only have 360's, and some only have front and rear facing strobes which cannot be individually turned on. Some don't even have reds facing rear, so it may seem that all the lights are on. Unlike tenders, police cars vary greatly across forces and so do their operating procedures.

  • Doubtful that regulations have changed.

How can it be a "response" vehicle with no audible warning device?

Admittedly, I sound the siren as sparingly as possible. I never count on it being heard, anyway, what with better sound-proofed vehicles with excellent surround-sound stereos and air conditioning.

If no one is in my lane I do not sound it. Only when approaching red signals or traffic which needs to move out of the way do I blare it and safely assume not everyone hears it.

  • It was in West Mercia constabulary. Admittedly, this was about 10 years ago - the old style Vauxhall Astra hatchbacks.

More recently though, I often drove a panda car when transferred to Warwickshire. It was a Peugeot. Brand new, with only blue lights and no siren. It wasn't used for pursuit, but could still be used as a response vehicle.

I live abroad now, so I'm not sure ifthe regulations have changed.

  • Where?

    Interesting.

To be classified an emergency vehicle, a vehicle MUST have lights visible at 500 feet in normal daylight and siren or other audible warning device.

Some fear riding along on a driver's first lights and siren run.

What's the difference if this FAKE run is a real response or not?

Are the hazards not the same?

Only this is uneeded and a real run has a purpose.

Knowledgeable English citizens agree these fake runs should be illegal.

  • I've driven some police cars that only have blue lights and absoloutely no sirens at all. There is no legal requirement.

  • Still here.

Always happy to answer new posts, of which YouTube notifies..

Now watching this ridiculous fake run, where, without any emergency, the fire brigade imposes on numerous drivers and citizens forcing people to stop and yield, making noise pollution, exposing everyone to needless risk.

Finally stopping the clown business at 2:55.

  • Are you still here Robertgit? Seven months later? Get a life you sad little troll man.

  • Good point!

But the siren is also less loud.

Maintaining forward motion, without progressing into moving traffic, shows drivers that you ARE moving and not parked.

A problem with electronic sirens is that most sound in projected forward.

Those approaching from the left, the most acute angle, may not hear the siren.

(We should have a siren speaker facing 70 degrees left, turned on when approaching intersections.)

360s should be used only when moving.

    Flashing lights when parked.

  • You, in the field, aren't likely to hear complaints. They are called in or e-mailed to the department.

    I got a complaint about a EV's continuous siren at 2 a.m. No traffic.

I explained it wasn't us. We are thoughtful, quiet and considerate.

Police create the problem for everyonelse.

Fire truck could not cross busy four-lane highway.

Drivers thought it parked with lights flashing. When they finally heard the siren, too late.

Firefighter had to get out and flag traffic.
