  • Ahhhhhhh, simple life; scottish style! Thank you for this break in my overly indulged liffe.

  • Visited Pennan on Sept 12th. We were blessed with calm, sunny weather. spent a few hours walking the rocks on the beach and walking through the local area, taking digitals, etc. I know this is not a very manly statement...but...It was MAGICAL! One of my favorite movies and soundtracks. FN in MT

  • My wife and I just were in Pennan in July 2011 and stayed with our friends who are starting the Mill of Nethermill with three self-catering cottages. Wonderfully beautiful area.

As to the YouTube, I kept clicking CC to take the Closed Captioning away, as the CC is way off in timing and distracts from this interesting video.

  • Such a brilliant film, simply off the charts.

  • This is definitely one of my favourite all time movies, Mark Knopfler wrote a majority of the music for the soundtrack, including the main theme 'Going Home' and Alan Clarke who was Dire Straits keyboard player until the band broke up, wrote some tunes for the soundtrack as well. The sound track was written around the same time as the Dire Straits album 'Love over Gold' which was a huge success for the band, followed by the live album 'Alchemy' which included a live performance of Going Home.

  • What a great story. Local Hero will always be on my all-time Top 10 list. If I ever make it to Scotland, Pennan is the destination after Aberdeen or Glasgow airports.

Thanks to everybody at Culture Show for doing this. The first time I've seen the director, Bill Forsyth. What a gentleman. If I had the chance to make either a big-budget Hollywood movie or something like Local Hero, I would make this movie right here. It's perfect and beautiful, and it will never age.

  • Kermode's a twat....Bill's a legend!!

  • the subtitles are annoying

  • so glad i stumbled on this clip. What a beautful film.

"Thank you for calling Knox Oil and Gas"

  • My fave movie of all time, I can't wait to go there!!

  • I just rented this out on DVD last week fantastic movie only made even better by Mark Knoffler's amazing soundtrack

  • Quiet down at the back Kermode!!
