Un Dios

Qué hombre tan digno, tan sabio, tan íntegro. Su misma humildad y sencillez lo enaltece más allá de los oropeles y diplomas, e incluso más allá de su talento artístico extraordinario. Un maestro, un verdadero Doctor Honoris causa. Un ejemplo de vida y de arte a nivel mundial, y que será perenne como Cervantes o Quevedo. Lástima que no haya Nobel de Música, se lo tendría más que merecido.

Se lo merece con creces y desde luego, el mayor premio es escucharle su música, su trabajo, su guitarra, toda la dimensión de su arte, que es enorme, y ese premio incomparable es el de todos los que somos sus seguidores.

My bad if any mistakes...

In the past years I have received prizes and recognitions that I have of course appreciated, they have pushed me forward. However when I learned that the UCA was going to award me I felt something different: I felt important.

I am the antithesis of the common education, street boy, worker from birth, I feel grateful to this Institution for giving worth to my flamenco culture. This culture cannot be learned in books, but deserves worth as much as books.

I am an autodidact in the full range of the word. I went to school up until 9 years old. As a paradoxe, together with a complex for my lack of education I feel proud for being an autodidact, because it carries on effort and even purity. I find it beautiful.

However sometimes I miss not having done more schooling, not having learned to learn.

With age coming opinions that matter to me are few. I guess because opinions that really tell me how I did in life are few. Applauses, critics, taps on the shoulder... all of this ends up been a buzz in the back - pleasant... or unpleasant - but without true significance.

Now only a few voices matter to me, the voices of my roots: my father’s, my mother’s or my people in Algeciras.
