Infinitjunoon: it is my perception, as an outsider of the US (and only being to 2 states), that Credit is a big part of social status. And that's not necessarily automatically bad; every country has social status, I think, and every country, by the nature of its laws and cultures, favors some behaviors actions and disfavors others.
