Conceived in 2000, the "Kirvesniemi" (was the original name given to this Skiing Robot) was realized as part of a study commissioned by the LEGO Company -- named the Book of Records - regarding the exploration of possibilities in building up games through the LEGO MINSTORMS programmable brick.
Probably, Kirvesniemi was the first robot moving out in the snow ever.
It showed a robust behaviour and was relentless and practically unstoppable.
Follows "Missliding", second prototype of skiing machine.
There is not a special meaning in all of that, apart from the fact that sometimes you love to put yourself in a challenging situation and, as you can easily note, it was pretty bizarre to run a LEGO robot in such a tough environment!
