I could not agree more! Brock writes such haunting, beautiful lyrics. I almost start crying when Kozelek starts singing them. Actually the Sun Kil version of Ocean Breathes Salty does make me sob like a little girl!

I figure this project is a showcase for Brock's lyrics more than anything. In the MM aesthetic, it's not immediately clear how gorgeous his lyrics actually are because their music creates an aggressive and emotional buffer from the nakedness of the lyrics. Kozelek excels at creating music as fragile as the lyrics, and in his aesthetic, lyrics like the opening line are allowed to exist in all their heartache. Both versions have value; one doesn't replace the other.

its hard to say that this is a modest mouse cover. although the lyrics are the same, the melody and chord structure are almost completely different.
