Note: The actual storyline in the book is that Merlot (a brooding, existential...ist young man who yearns for immortality without human death) is in a relationship with Lucy (a pretty, but incredibly ditzy girl) and is seeing Julie on the side (a intelligent, philosophically-minded girl).
