You're right. I once encountered a Lovecraft fundamentalist who was completely outraged and offended by some HPL parody online. What a Maroon! "Oh, was it funny when Cthulhu ate all those sailors? Was it funny when those women and children were snatched up by cultists to die horribly at the hand of His servitors. There's nothing funny about Lovecraft!" Uh, yes, that was funny. Because it was Cthulhu.
