01.20.12 (LAS CRUCES) -- As the race for the White House heats up, there is one republican candidate in particular many college students say will be the next president of the United States.

Jayme Fuller is paying close attention to everything politics and as she begins a new semester at New Mexico State University, she's hoping to get other students involved as well.

"There's so many things congress can ship away at our constitutional liberties and its really important to let people know exactly what's going on, that they need to be involved and they do actually need to care and that they can make a difference," she said.

One candidate she strongly supports is republican Congressman Ron Paul who is getting a lot of backing from her peers.

"With me personally, talking with people that are democrats, I think they buy more of Ron Paul's views then say a hardcore conservative would then democrats. I think the conservative party is a lot more worried about Ron Paul then the democrats are," she said.

"Aggies for Ron Paul," is a registered chapter on campus for the congressman's national campaign. Representatives for the candidate say Paul needs a few more strong second place finishes to really cement himself as the conservative to beat.

"He's not just another politician like we are all so use to, I think he's been saying the same thing for thirty years in office. I think he's taking his oath to the constitution very seriously," said volunteer, Paul Smith.

The group plans to organize information tables on campus and at the farmer's market. Volunteers are also working on a petition to bring the congressman to Las Cruces.

"The youth is where he's getting a lot of support right now and I think its because of that reason, they understood that these politicians they are just telling us what we think we want to hear," he said.
