I was in Vietnam in 1968 and I say that the war was the biggest problem,not drug use; the war and poor leadership eroded discipline, not drugs. We did drugs because our whole generation was doing drugs. Is smoking marijuana abusing drugs? I don't think so. Smoking marijuana in Nam was an act of rebellion against the war mentality many of us decided after arriving, we didn't want any part of. Bob

Im an Afghanistan Vet 2009-2011. It seems to be the same way over there with the drug use.

@eightpoint89 I ask because I'm not a soldier, nor have I been to Afghanistan :p. Don't many militaries (I know the Canadian Forces do) drug test their troops, and even go as far as banning alcohol on base? I remember reading that US troops in Iraq has a problem with inhaling canned electronic cleaners and that sort of thing.

@biggrigga well there is readily available hash and heroin everywhere. i would stand next to pot plants as big as christmas trees. who gonna stop the NATO troops? its easy to put two and two together.
