Sure, life can be good or bad based off your position, but only after completing the hardship. Would you consider yourself having a good life while you're getting molested by a parent, dying from cancer, experiencing the death of a loved one, etc? Surely starving kids in Africa aren't having good lives, even if they have a positive outlook. Which brings us back to the second comment: There are some things in life that you can't control.
